Welcome to Solihull Sports and Social Club

Solihull Municipal Club was opened on 14th May 1958, starting its life as a club for the staff of Solihull Municipal Council. Volunteer club members erected the original clubhouse from whatever materials they could find; on completion, the building resembled a wooden cricket pavilion. The ‘municipal’ title was dropped by Solihull Council in 1968 as their title evolved. From such inauspicious beginnings, the club has grown and flourished, culminating in the redevelopment of a new clubhouse in the mid-1990s.

The continued successful progress of the club from its early days is thanks to the increasing number of local people who have joined and grown the membership. This growth has enabled both the Members Lounge and the Function Room to be completely refurbished. The Club’s facilities are also available during the daytime to local businesses for meetings, seminars and training sessions at very reasonable rates, subject to availability and requirements.

The ethos of the club is summed up by a plaque at the entrance that reads, “There are no strangers here, only friends we have yet to meet”.

The two club bars have a wide range of quality draught beers, lagers, wines and spirits at very competitive prices. Both lounges are equipped with multiple televisions; a 42inch LCD screen and giant 80inch Plasma screen TV for sporting events, plus a further 50inch LCD screen in the Members Area, located next to the main bar. A large well-lit car park ensures safe off-road parking for members and visitors.

If you are looking for an attractive venue to relax and drink with family and friends; why not make a trial visit and look around? If you like what you see – and we are sure that you will – you are most welcome to join as a member. Take a look at the Gallery section for some photos.

If you require further information regarding memberships or an application form, please see the Memberships page. On becoming a club member you may then wish to join one or more of the sporting or recreational sections of the club that include Cricket, Football, Angling, Snooker, Bowls, Darts, and a Ladies Keep Fit Section.

The Club is family friendly and children under the age of 16 years are welcomed in all Club lounges between 19.00 hours and 21.00 hours during school term time, and all day until 21.00 hours from Friday – Sunday. Parents with children are asked to use the Widney Lounge on Fridays, Saturdays and during school holidays after 21.00 hours.

For more information and answers to any questions that you may have, please see the Contacts at the foot of this page for details. We look forward to the pleasure of your company soon. The club is situated less than a mile south of Solihull town centre, on Brick Kiln Lane (off Widney Lane) where there is ample parking for any event.
